In June 1944, 21st Army Group set sail for
France with the objective of fighting its way from the Normandy
beachheads across occupied Europe and on to Berlin. In the
years since the end of the Second World War, relatively
little detail has been published on the organization of
the various formations and units that made up 21st Army
Group, until now.
This series will examine in detail the authorized
War Establishments of every unit that formed part of the
British Infantry and Armoured Divisions of 21st Army Group,
as well as the specialist Brigades of 79th Armoured Division
and the Tank Brigades. Each table will list the composition
of the relevant unit, giving a breakdown of personnel by
ranks and trades and duties, as well as its transport and
weapons. Additional notes will also be provided on known
deviations from the official structures outlined and where
appropriate the particular types of vehicles and weapons
used by units. The first six volumes cover the Infantry
and Armoured Divisions, while the seventh details the specialist
Brigades of 79th Armoured Division.
